The Best Noise Cancelling

Multi Noise Sensor technology

Unbeatable Noise Cancellation

New high-quality sound and noise cancelling driver unit

The Best Noise Cancelling

The WF-1000XM5 reduces external noise over a wide bandwidth, from low to high frequencies. It contains two proprietary processors that cancel more external noise than ever, a new high-performance driver unit Dynamic Driver X, dual feedback microphones and innovative Noise Isolation Earbud Tips for a more stable fit. Real-time noise-cancelling processing can be optimised to provide the best performance for your environment, so you will hear a big difference, especially in aeroplanes, trains or buses.

Multi Noise Sensor technology

Three microphones on each earbud, including dual feedback mics, improve low-frequency cancellation performance. This is our biggest ever step forwards in noise cancelling, resulting in ambient sound captured even more accurately. So you can enjoy one of our purest sounds.

Unbeatable Noise Cancellation

Exclusively developed by Sony, the Integrated Processor V2 unlocks the full potential of our HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN2e. This unique combination of technology controls the six microphones, across both ears, to deliver unprecedented noise-cancelling quality that can be adapted to provide the best performance for your environment.

New high-quality sound and noise cancelling driver unit

The specially designed driver unit Dynamic Driver X, able to reproduce lower frequencies, has been improved using a dome-edge separation structure that combines different materials, allowing for a more accurate generation of cancellation waves in the lower frequencies.

Feel a more stable fitting earbud

Astonishing sound quality

Enjoy richer, more detailed vocals

Designed for less distortion

Feel a more stable fitting earbud

Noise Isolation Earbud Tips feature a unique polyurethane foam material which reduces noise in the high-frequency range. Soft and elastic, they maximise the contact area between the earbud tip and the ear canal, insulating your sound and reducing noise. It also improves adhesion to the ear canal for a more secure, stable fit.

Astonishing sound quality

The specially designed driver unit Dynamic Driver X provides wide frequency reproduction, enabling deeper bass, subtle vocals and enhanced fine detail, especially on high-pitched instruments. The consummate performance, across the full range of frequencies, delivers a smooth and natural sound regardless of what you’re listening to.

Enjoy richer, more detailed vocals

Thanks to a specially designed driver unit Dynamic Driver X for wide frequency reproduction, you will experience richer vocals and enhanced fine details. The diaphragm structure combines several different materials for the dome and the edge, achieving low distortion and a clear sound quality.

Designed for less distortion

By combining our HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN2e and Integrated Processor V2, the WF-1000XM5 incorporates precision 24-bit audio processing and high-performance analogue amplification. The result is low distortion and crystal-clear audio reproduction.

Enjoy High-Resolution Audio

AI technology for precision sound

360 Spatial Sound Personalizer

Dolby Atmos Experience

Enjoy High-Resolution Audio

The WF-1000XM5 supports High-Resolution Audio Wireless, thanks to LDAC, our industry-adopted audio coding technology. LDAC transmits approximately three times more data1 than conventional Bluetooth audio for exceptional High-Resolution Audio quality2 that is closer than ever to the studio recording.

AI technology for precision sound

Using Edge-AI (Artificial Intelligence), DSEE Extreme upscales compressed digital music files in real-time, including those from popular streaming services. It dynamically recognises each song’s instrumentation, musical genre and individual elements and restores high-range sound lost in compression.

360 Spatial Sound Personalizer

With the Sony | 360 Spatial Sound Personaliser app, you’ll enjoy a sound experience that’s optimised for you. The app captures and analyses your ear shape, allowing these headphones to create your spatial sound field when paired with BRAVIA XR TVs

Dolby Atmos Experience

With a Sony WLA-NS7 wireless transmitter connected to a BRAVIA XR TV, your headphones create the ideal arrangement of phantom speakers all around you so you can enjoy a Dolby Atmos experience. Be immersed in the scene and feel right at the heart of the action.

Sony's best-ever call quality

Detects speech vibrations to enhance clarity

Mute the outside world for clear call quality

Always hear and be heard

Sony’s best-ever call quality

Thanks to an AI-based noise reduction algorithm based on Deep Neural Network (DNN) processing and bone conduction sensors, your voice will come through clearly and naturally, even in a noisy environment. And if you’re outdoors, the wind noise reduction structure will minimise any wind whooshes, so you always know you’ll be heard.

Detects speech vibrations to enhance clarity

Bone conduction sensors pick up the vibration of your voice directly from your skull bones, helping to isolate your speech from ambient sounds and background noise, for clear calls in even loud environments.

Mute the outside world for clear call quality

With Precise Voice Pickup Technology and advanced audio signal processing, the person on the other end of the call will hear your voice clearly, even when you are in noisy situations. Our noise reduction algorithm was developed with AI machine learning using more than 500 million voice samples to suppress ambient noise, increase accuracy and extract your voice clearly in various environments.

Always hear and be heard

A wind noise reduction structure and a mesh wrap in the microphone will minimise noise during calls so you can be heard clearly in windy conditions.

Small and beautifully designed

Comfortable and secure

A comfortable fit and better sound insulation

Smooth switching

Small and beautifully designed

With an improved glossy texture and a more luxurious feel, these earbuds fit comfortably in your ears while keeping out external sounds.

By downsizing the headphone body and optimising the placement of the components, the earbud is now approximately 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the WF-1000XM4. We’ve also reduced the size of the charging case, so it will sit even more sleekly in your pocket.

Comfortable and secure

Our WF-1000XM5 earbuds feature a shape that perfectly matches the human ear with an ergonomic design for a more stable fit. We’ve designed the WF-1000XM5 utilising extensive ear-shape data collated since introducing the world’s first in-ear headphones in 1982. Our continuous evaluation of different ear shapes and sensitivities has helped us design an ideal earbud shape, secure and comfortable for almost everybody.

A comfortable fit and better sound insulation

New Noise Isolation Earbud Tips are made from an exclusive material that improves fitting and increases comfort thanks to reduced pressure in the ear due to a newly designed shape. The earbuds come in four sizes, including SS.

Smooth switching

For total convenience, the WF-1000XM5 can be paired with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously so, when a call comes in, your headphones can automatically connect to the right one. With the multipoint connection you can quickly switch to a ringing device, then back by simply resuming playback on the other device.

    Disappointed

The features, stability and ANC were good but fit in ears is very bad and keep falling suddenly despite trying all ear tip piece sizes.

    Silence

Forget the Gym…. For mechanical ppl like us. Who always surrounds between noises of machines. A big relief to all of them. At the end no comparison to music of Sony to any other brand just perfect.

The best you can buy for now

This is one of the best earbuds you can buy in 2023, the amount of embedded technology in these earbuds outweighs the competition, they were built to last with multipoint and punchy sound, a wireless charging case speak to pause, and customizable gestures you cannot go working with these earbuds

Difficult to find a replacement part

I lost the left eardbud…. The people I have contacted (Service Centers). Replacement parts are not available (unlike Apple Airpods). So if the bud gets lost or stolen, you have to purchase the whole thing. I could also not find any customer assistance after purchase or any official after sales support to assist me.

    Quality Earbuds

I always wanted to buy the Sony XM earbuds for a very long and this time I bought the XM5 which is the latest and I was very excited to use it.First Impression:I wasn’t impressed with the first use of the earbuds. But after I used it for a few hours and compared with others… there was a visible difference in sound.I was expecting more on the noise cancellations and a visible difference between Passive noise cancellation and the actual Noise cancellation. The passive noise cancellation itself is too good, you have to put the ambient mode on to listen to people. The noise cancellation is balanced between Bass and treble and if you are not listening to anything, the uniformity of noise cancellation is not good, i.e, sometimes you can hear everything around like its Off, then you have to go through all three modes to enable it again.Ambient mode like how everyone says, feels unnatural. Calls feel like you are inside a tube and talking always. So far no one in the listening end has complained. So I guess the sound must be good. The music sounds good. The instrument separations are very good compared to the other earbuds which I use. The bass is shallow and I had to increase the clear bass to make it perfect for my ears. The only annoying thing I have until now with XM5 is the ear tips that have come up with it. Its little annoying to position it in your ears as it won’t slide easily inside your ears and when you talk to others, you feel like it is going to fall down because it comes loose from the ears even with the tight fit ear tip.A little overview of what was my comparison against:I was using a cheap Huawei Freebuds 4i which is quite nice compared to the flagships of most companies and also a JBL LIVE 600btnc. The Huawei noise cancellation is quite very good when you think its priced like one-third/fourth the price of even Airpods Pro and it sounds amazing(Not as good as the Sony XM5)Is it worth the price:I would say, if you want premium earbuds, I think this is a good choice as it has the industry’s best Noise cancellation(according to experts). But, I would recommend buying this only when there is an offer.Sony could have made the Ambient mode the how it feels on Calls a bit better as well as the ear tips…

No Noise Cancelling feature. Faulty unit?

I grabbed the unit, plugged it into my ear and felt … nothing.Humming of machines, slight echoes of objects around. Perhaps a faulty unit? Good sound quality notvgreat, and the case unit was smaller than I expected.I own Sony’s WH1000XM5 (over the head version) and they are the best especially for calls. Drawbacks are size, and sweaty ears due to insulation. Make sure to use it in a cooled place so it wouldn’t bother later. The older version is just as good and comes packed with more accessories so just that in mind.In or around ear canal options are better for pocketing the device or packing in a small bag, and they are great for not getting attention – as if the bulky looking device in the middle of your ear is fine! I was being sarcastic with the last remark.Bose’s QC Earbuds 2 offers a good design that uses the surrounding of your ear plus a plug in your ear, but the older model was more comfortable.

    Not worth the premium price

Nothing special about these high priced Sony ear buds. Bass is lousy. Older Sony models have better bass than these. Sound quality too average. Biggest problem is buds don’t fit into ear properly. They fall often. You have to be very careful. Totally disappointed with these Sony earbuds. Not worth the steep premium price. I advise people to avoid these ear buds. Go for cheaper models. . They serve the same purpose

    Call quality unacceptable

Coming from airpods pro 2, using them on s23ultra and Iphone 12, music is much more audiophile grade, highly detailed, decent bass, good seperation slund stage, foam tips are an issue tend to hurt ears for long wearing duration(which you can get other tips and change) multipoint is ok, uneven battery drain which people seem to complain about I did not experience at all, very cheap and flimsy feeling case, bloated features and addons on the app, very unnecessary stuff, waste of development resources. ANC worse than airpods pro 2 but you can live with it, transparency is light years behind apple airpods pro 2 but even that is ok, pairing is flawlessIf you are buying a tws, you most likely intend to keep them on for long periods and take calls with it, I am on the second firmware and unless you are in a silent environment the mic quality on calls is a big problem, everbody complains about the metallic sound of my voice and unintelligible my speech is and beg me to switch to the phone, and I listen to how bad it was after I move to the phone, 6mics bone+conduction sensor+two processing chips, all that hardware is wasted probably on a very poor execution of software, sony you should have done better, it is so evident on the youtube review videos even, how did sony manage to mess up the call quality this bad I dont know, I hope they put all their focus and resources to fix this because it would be a shame

    Best Sound Profile in TWS

If it weren’t for having the FXM4s, I’d rate this the best TWS product out there. However, the 4s did have the advantage in 2 areas – better bass/low-end warmth, and better ANC. I’ve A/B’d them extensively. BUT, the new FXM5s have several advantages – form and fit being number one. Secondly? The stock sound profile is absolutely incredible – and offers more an “audiophile” tuning profile than the warm, fuller XM4s do. This is not a bad thing – in fact, it’s so good – I can’t use the GEQ that comes with the new connect app – the stock sound is outstanding. Are they worth the price? Not if you own the XM4s. If you managed to see the once-in-a-while 20% discount? More than likely yes. If you truly love incredible sound and detail and clarity and precision in TWS format?? Most certainly yes. The sound and new form make up for all other discrepancies.Note: Batteries are draining equally between buds, no issues there. Connect app works seamlessly. They sound amazing – but they come at a price and they’re not perfect. Yet.

    O melhor

Esse produto trás melhorias em relação ao modelo anterior no âmbito de cancelamento de ruído e design. O anc está um pouco melhor e o design faz ele ficar mais pra dentro do ouvido e não chamar tanta atenção quanto o xm4. Adorei a aquisição e é o meu bud favorito agora.

    ‘Sony Noise Cancelling Wireless Earphones

Very happy, Pros, good sound. Fit well, Cons, tapping to change function a bit hit and miss. I expected to be able to use google but that function has been cancelled,.that was disappointing.

  27. Whyborg

    Wow, impressive upgrade

There’s a bit of possible Sony hate going on in some reviews, like others I got burned on a pair of WF-10004XM refurbished and one of the batteries started failing after a year. Wasn’t worth the cost of repair. Have others from QCY and Soundcore that were surprisingly good for less cost. Also had trouble with refurbished headphones WH-1000XM4, luckily had added insurance. Cut to buying a new pair that have been flawless.Got the Sony WF-C700N a couple months ago to scratch my earbud itch. Very good for the price. If you’re not ready to throw down $300 for the XM5 they’re a great alternative. Not quite as musical, but no gripes anyway. You can get picky about the throwback buttons but oh well. One comment before I get more specific on the XM5. I fully agree with another review that calls out Sony for how complicated their Sony Connect app has become. It could be simplified for people who don’t want to get into the tech so much. Now, how do they sound? I’m impressed and I’m not using them to their full potential. Using with iPhone so Bluetooth SBC codec is the most basic and lowest quality solution (after digging into the codec question a bit more it does appear that the iPhone has the AAC codec also). However, with the help of Sony’s equalizer and DSEE function I’m very happy with the sound. I almost don’t want to try them with a better codec and then have to go back. (Still applies with AAC, DSE does improve sound)I need treble boost for my old ears and having played bass no surprise I like a lot of bass. These don’t disappoint. I did an A-B comparison with the XM4 headphones and they didn’t have quite the low end but good and punchy with good definition between bass and drums.both can become nice and “growly” on the low end.Noise cancellation is very good, not as good as the headphones but after only a couple days I have been quite satisfied so far.Comfort level is better than the XM4 buds, but I’m so pissed I wasted the money now I don’t want to dig them out to compare audio! I think Sony really improved the fit and design to be lighter, more comfortable, and have impressive sound. Let’s just hope they found a better battery.Used overnight and had battery left in the morning but playing audiobook on timer so i couldn’t say how long continuous playback.I’ll update after I’ve had them longer.(Update) battery life seems to be very similar to the XM4. Sometimes I have battery left in the morning sometimes it comes up short.Another follow up, comes with 4 sets of tips but apparently I have very large ear canals as I’m unable to get a complete seal with the included buds. The large felt good at first but when I used the connect app to check for airtight seals I could not get them to seal. Fortunately I have many tips I’ve saved over the years and by mixing, matching, and testing I have a couple that seal. I even tried ordering extra large tips from a couple vendors and they didn’t work either. Nice that Sony is including extra small but what about us with extra large needs! I do have a possible solution on the way, find a video on YouTube that shows how to use Sugro glue rolled up and inserted in the mushroom part of the tip. Press in the ear to get a fit and then allow to cure over night. Hoping it works, I have a few tips I’d like to try this on. Was even investigating custom molded tips but for $150 plus I’ll try the Sugro hack…8/5/23 tried the Sugro hack yesterday. Still have to work to get an airtight fit but it definitely helped. My opinion on the sound has not diminished. Excellent with what I listen too. A lot of classic rock but also new material from Elle King and others. Listening to Lourdes “Royals” a very deep bass which presents low, solid, and clear. You can easily distinguish the bass and drums. The low rumbling bass of Pink Floyd “Welcome to the Machine” couldn’t be much better in any buds. Almost like I could feel it.I’m now using the WF-C700n as my workout and dog walking buds. Sound signature is very similar but the bass is not quite as good. One thing they are lacking is the airtight fit check in the app. I had to use other tips and the Sugro mold hack to get a good consistent fit in both. The included tips are worthless to me and my big ears.I see a lot of criticism of the noise cancellation for the XM5. I have no way to measure so it’s pretty subjective but I’m not disappointed. At least as good as the XM4. But with any ANC earbuds the airtight seal is critical. If you’re not ready to throw down $300 the WF-C700n are a very good alternative, but are not touch controlled, a single button on each side. Not quite as good on the low end but not disappointing either. In direct comparison you can hear the difference.I still think these are 5 star worthy. I’d take off half a star because of the somewhat complex app but if you like to tinker with the sound and features, give it back. People who are not “technical minded” may find it intimidating. I find it useful but jammed with some features I wouldn’t normally use, like automatically changing settings depending on location as an example. Some might find it useful but not me. The equalizer and clear bass functions are excellent. DSEE function makes a noticeable difference in sound quality. Happier with these than I was with the XM4. Just hope the batteries last, I would hope Sony changed from the $70 replacement cost batteries (not including labor) used in the XM4 as apparently so many people had problems with them dying out after a few months.9/22/23Used these today instead of the WF-C700n for my indoor cycling and to walk the dog. Usually I do those activities with the cheaper buds as for $300 I want to take every precaution to protect them. So…more feedback on the ANC. Definitely a difference on the bike with 2 pretty loud blower fans on. The WF-C700n does a very good job in the same situation but I could definitely tell a difference. Could hardly hear the fans at all and the WF-1000XM5 does have the superior sound performance. Note these blowers are loud enough that if I have my Apple Watch to close to them I get the over 90db warning. They’re not 90db from the bike but they are loud. These cancelled almost all the noise. With volume on my music I don’t hear the fans at all.

    Highly Recommended

I bought the Bose Quietcomfort at first, but felt that the Noises Cancellation is too strong and quite uncomfortable. I replaced it with SONY and I’m so happy with the product and the sound quality. ANC is suitable for those who want to have little connection with the surrounding.

The best earbuds money can buy!

They are exactly as great as what you can imagine earbuds to be. They are perfect at delivering your voice, and they are unbelievable at noise cancellation. I was talking to a friend wearing these, and a speaker 4 ft away playing music at room-filling audio. I asked her if she could hear the music, and she said she couldn’t. Mind officially blown!

Superb sound quality but really bad connectivity and software

One of the best sound quality in my ears. But had to return it because it struggles when trying to connect with my phone in crowded area. The software interface was not really friendly either.

  32. James Kilpatrick

It’s okay – but not noticably better than my cheap pair

Edit2: Revising review and increasing to 4 stars. Turns out I had covid and was too sick to use/appreciate these earbuds. I realised you could turn a lot of the annoying stuff off in the phone app which had helped with the touch controls. Battery life still sucks when noise cancelling is on; but overall really great headphones still.Edit: My battery life has dropped within a week to <3 hrs. I suspect these are not functioning as intended and I'm going to contact support. They're fine, but not really a big change over my cheap $30 earbuds. My other set don't have noise cancelling, but 95% of the work is being done by the silicon in the ear canal so I don't find I notice the difference a very much. The touch controls on the earbuds are annoying (like always) and go off by accident - would prefer to have low set buttons instead. The battery life of the earbuds is disappointing - they don't make it more than 5-6 hrs which is very irritating for a days study. The software doesn't let you keep one earbud in the case and use the other at the same time - so if I want just 1 ear I have to keep the other earbud loose in my pocket - this is infuriating. The earbuds don't fit my partners ears at all - they fall straight out.I would just buy whatever soundpeats are cheap and meet your criteria than buy this again

    Amazing

I have had 3 different brand /model of wireless, noise cancelation earbuds in the last 4 weeks. The first pair were Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds 2. By far they had the best @ noise cancelation (I could hear nothing outside of the sweet music that they were creating. The sound quality was as expected from Bose. The set up was easy and quick. However, at the end of the week I was ready to trash them (I sent them back) – they would not stay connected to either my iPhone 12 Pro Max or my MSI WS-75 Workstation. They were good for about 10 minutes, and then would have to reconnect.I then decided to try something different – Beyer Dynamics is a big name in studio monitor quality speakers, headphones and mics. They have a solution – the “FreeByrds”.” Three drivers in each ear – unsurpassed sound and clarity…” They did have good sound, they stayed connected, but the noise cancelation was non-existant (The reason that I wanted new NOIsE CANCELING earbuds for). I have a pair of 12 yr old Bose wired earbuds that block more sound than those were, and they aren’t (weren’t) catigorized as being noise blocking or canceling. The set up was long and complicated. Those should be back at the music store today. So I sprung for about $100 more and ordered a pair of Sony WF-1000XM5’s. They stay connected. They sound really good (as good as the Bose? It’s been a few weeks, too long to honestly compair…but these sound really good), they stay connected (actually you can connect to 2 sources at the same time if you want), and the noise cancellation is amazing, but I think not quite as good as the Bose (why I gave them 4 starts instead of 5). The set up was a bit more compilicated than the Bose were, and these fit inside your ear canal, where the Bose where more of an external fit. I wish I would have gotten these first…oh, and battery life is great. With the Auto Abmient setting off, I am easily going to get 10 hours out of a single charge today – and that is sitting at my desk enjoying great music all day with no other sound to degrade what I am hearing…and the case is good for two full charges.Based on what I know after 4 or 5 days – I would buy these again.

Excellent product, but frustrating pre-order experience and missing promotional item

Overall: Excellent noise cancellation and sound quality, but frustrating pre-order experience and missing promotional item.(4 star for this product and less than 0 for other delivery and support)Pros:Best-in-class noise cancellation: Effectively blocks out ambient sound, making them ideal for noisy environments.Exceptional sound quality: Clear and balanced audio with powerful bass and crisp highs.Comfortable fit: Ergonomically designed earbuds stay secure in your ears even during extended listening sessions.Long battery life: Up to 36 hours of playback time with the charging case.Cons:Delays and communication gaps: I experienced numerous delays in receiving my order and encountered significant communication gaps throughout the process.Pre-order issues: Many customers reported missing promotional items and delays in communication from Amazon.Invalid coupon: After multiple buyers reported similar issues, Amazon provided a coupon code to claim the speaker. However, the code turned out to be invalid, adding to the frustration.Limited communication avenues: Difficulty reaching anyone beyond customer service for assistance. The lack of transparent communication and escalation channels was deeply frustratingDelivery : My attempts to resolve the missing speaker issue were met with delays, communication gaps, and unhelpful responses. I was repeatedly told the correct product was delivered, and no action was takeRecommendation:While the WF-1000XM5 earbuds offer exceptional sound quality and noise cancellation, the frustrating pre-order experience and missing promotional items detract from the overall purchase experience. While I appreciate the coupon code gesture, the invalid code further amplified the disappointment. If you can get past these issues, the earbuds themselves are excellent. However, if you value a smooth and reliable purchasing experience, you may want to consider other options. This review is based on my personal experience and may not reflect the experience of others. I encourage potential buyers to read other reviews and research the product thoroughly before making a purchase

By far the best headphones I have used.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds blend sleek design with stellar noise cancellation, making a strong statement in the market. While they boast impressive battery life and a comfortable fit, some may find the bass and call quality a tad underwhelming. A few reported connection dropouts hint at room for improvement, yet, the overall balance of aesthetics and performance makes these buds a worthy contender for your ears’ affection.

    Great sound but not comfortable

I must preface this by saying that I love the sound of these earbuds, and they provide great ANC; the DSEE Extreme works great with compressed audio; and if your device supports LDAC, the uncompressed audio is at par with what I experience with a wired audio technica studio headphones (except that the sony has much more bass). Every feature on a technical level is brilliant. Listening to FLAC files is great. The only huge part that bothers me a lot is the comfort of wearing it. Since the reviews at sites like Amazon don’t highlight it, I was confused when I wore them. Googled this and reddit is full of people like me who find these uncomfortable, with many people getting itchiness in their ear. Sony has used this new scratchy foam type buds that are supposed to squeeze into your canals and expand inside, thereby creating a seal for the best noise cancellation: except that these buds irritate the ears a lot for some people. And they dont even do what it claims every time. It is supposed to provide a secure fit by getting into your ear, but the tips squeezed inside the canal are all that’s holding up these very light buds, creating this phantom feeling that they might drop out at any second, even if they dont. The buds dont rest into the ear naturally and need to be twisted and pushed into the ear, and if you dont do that properly, they’ll start sliding out slowly over time and actually fall out once in a while. I tried out multiple eartip sizes provided within the package so that they dont slide out, and it turned out that my left ear is a size medium and right a large, but even then it feels like i cant wear these are forget about them for longer than 2-3 hours, either because my ear gets itchy, or that I have to check if it’s falling out or not. I had order a third party silicon-foam hybrid eartips from a brand called HiFiGo, so that I could have longevity in wearing these in a day, but I feel it’s an absurd concept to purchase better tips after buying a 25k product. I have used chinese buds from tronsmart worth 2k that were more comfortable to wear, even if I sleep in them. You can’t sleep in the Sony since it’s a bit bulky on outside. The airpods pro are so much more comfortable at the same price range, even if their audio might not be a direct comparison. I don’t know, I guess I expected a more ergonomic design that I didn’t have to worry about falling out or invest in third party stuff to make it comfortable. All I would say that the comfort is really person dependant rather than a unanimous thing one would assume, so you should definitely try if it works for you before investing so much into this. If it suits your ear, the audio and every other feature is great.

WF1000XM5, run away don’t look back

Overpriced, poor fitting, sloppy design no metal hunge on the case, poor selection of materials the ear buds are too slippery the tooling on the case isn’t high quality the earbuds slip out of charge position while in the case all the time they also slip out of your ears and the earbud tips don’t clean well alcohol will destroy them, they suffer from Bluetooth interference, the charge the case holds could be better. These are so bad I will never buy Sony anything ever again.

If you have an iphone airpods are still better

The only bang for your buck is the sound quality. Features wise there are its advantage and disadvantages. For a truly wireless premium earphones no option to locate it if you lost it so if accidentally you lost them say bye forever.

    Darn near perfection.

I have used pretty much every credible earbud in the last few years. Sony, Apple, Beats, Bose, B&W, Samsung, Klipsch, M&D, and more. I have also used every generation of Sony buds. In terms of overall use and features, these are not a giant change from the last gen XM4 buds. However, there are significant improvements in key areas. Here is the breakdown:Sound: There are moderate sound improvements here, over the last generation Sony’s, which were already close to class leading. Sony put a larger driver in here and it makes a difference. Additionally, Sony added a lot of processing horsepower here. The put in their latest chip for audio, but then added a separate chip to handle all of the ANC duties. Sony argues, that by separating the tasks here, they were able to more finely tune the audio. You can hear the difference. Bass is thumping, highs are even more crisp, and the mid vocals definitely pop more. I am no audiophile but these are really good. To me, these sound better than the latest Bose and Airpod Pro buds. You have to get into the really high-end audio companies to find sound this good. As always, you get Sony’s LDAC here if you can use it for high-end audio options and the DSEE Extreme tech that upscale regular more compressed audio. The DSEE really shines here. Your Spotify or Apple music app has never sounded so good. I think most folks will be very satisfied with what Sony has done here and, at the end of the day, sound quality is a big reason to make such an investment.Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): These are the best ANC buds Sony has ever made which is saying something. They were already 1b to the latest from Bose, but these have improved dramatically to me. The new dedicated chip just gets it done. These buds adjust the ANC to the noise around you. I honestly hear pretty much nothing other than my music when I have these in. The latest Quiet Comfort’s from Bose are still at least as good to me in this arena, but that is pretty much the only area that Bose still is really on equal footing. At least in my opinion. Fit really determines great ANC, so while these are great, there is definitely some subjectivity that comes into play here. I think most will be very happy with the results they get here though.Form Factor: This is an area that Sony has absolutely nailed it and I am going to just say, FINALLY! Every bud Sony has made has always had an asterisk for me. “They sound so good but they just aren’t that comfortable” was what I often told folks. Not anymore. Sony has made these buds significantly smaller and by adding the glossy interior, has created a bud I hardly notice in my ear. They have gone from a “yeah but” to a class leader in the fit and comfort space. I really cannot emphasize enough how good these are. These buds have an IPX4 rating so they should handle the gym with no issues. Sony has included a revised version of their hybrid foam tips from last year and they are great. They just hold the buds in snug and really help block ambient sound. Just so so good Sony. Thank you for the thoughtful redesign. I also want to give Sony a nod for the case redesign. Same battery (3 charges) but much smaller. I love it.Battery and Connectivity: The battery life is the same from last year. About 7 to 8 hours of real use. It is fine. Not class leading but not bad either. Connection here is BT 5.3 so the latest. Same as last gen. However, Sony said that these buds will be LE compatible when they finally start rolling this out over the coming year so you can expect even better sound and perhaps even battery life someday soon. This essentially future proofs these buds.Call Quality: Not much to say here other than these are about as good as it gets. Sony added bone conductive tech here and you can tell. Your calls sound great.Intangibles: There are too many features to unpack here. You really need to read all that Sony has packed into these. From the upscaling audio, to one touch audio play, to speak to pause tech to gestures and so so so much more. You can literally get lost in the app. Almost too much is going on here. Regardless, there is almost nothing that these buds can’t do. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Sony has multipoint connection option here as well. It is only two devices, so there are more robust options out there, but this should be fine for most in real life application. Very good stuff. So, should you buy these? If you are an Android user, the answer is 100% yes. Apple users have to consider that Airpods are more tightly integrated into their space. Further, Apple is getting ready to launch their high end sound codec as well, which these will not support. They are still worth considering though as Sony has just made a better sounding product. To me, these might be the best all around buds I have ever tried. From sound to calls to comfort, Sony has just nailed all of it. There are companies that offer buds that do one thing better perhaps, but none are as complete as these in my opinion. So, yes, buy these. You will not regret it. I will update as I go here.

    Phenomenal sound but poor ergonomics

As an audiophile, I eagerly anticipated trying a Sony sound product, and the WF-1000XM5, which I purchased during a Black Friday sale, seemed like the perfect choice. Given the product’s higher price point, my expectations for premium quality were high. Here’s my detailed assessment after a week’s usage:Pros:Sound Quality: The audio performance of the WF-1000XM5 is nothing short of outstanding. The sound is exceptionally clear and crisp, with perfectly balanced bass. The customization options available exceed any of my previous experiences, including those with AirPods Pro.Battery Life: The battery longevity is impressive, easily supporting extended listening sessions without frequent recharging.Cons:Ergonomics: The design is where the WF-1000XM5 falls short. The earbuds are round and constructed from a glossy, slippery plastic, making them difficult to handle both in and out of the case. This design flaw has led to several instances of dropping them, despite my careful handling.App Interface: While the accompanying app is functional, it’s somewhat cumbersome to navigate. The explanations for advanced features are not as clear as they could be, necessitating a steeper learning curve for users. Conclusion:The Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds are a sonic delight, sure to satisfy any audiophile’s cravings for high-quality audio. However, the ergonomic design is a significant drawback, posing a risk to the durability of this substantial investment. Users should be extra cautious to avoid literally see your investment going down the drain. Overall though, they offer an exceptional audio experience but require careful handling.
