[1] Works with all major carriers. Contact carrier for details. 5G service is carrier dependent.

[2] Requires a 5G data plan (sold separately). 5G service and roaming not available on all carrier networks or in all areas. Contact carrier for details about current 5G network performance, compatibility, and availability. Phone connects to 5G networks, but 5G service, speed, and performance depend on many factors including, but not limited to, carrier network capabilities, device configuration and capabilities, network traffic, location, signal strength, and signal obstruction. Actual results may vary. Some features not available in all areas. Data rates may apply.

[3] Download speed claims based on testing videos from three streaming platforms. Average download time was less than sixty seconds. File sizes varied between 449MB and 1.3GB. Download speed depends upon many factors, such as file size, content provider and network connection. Testing conducted in an internal 5G network lab and on pre-production hardware in California in July/August 2020. Actual download speeds may be slower.

[4] Enabling gameplay with cellular data may increase your mobile data usage up to 2.7GB/hr. Gameplay is service-, network-, connection-, and game-dependent, and may not be available for all games in all areas. Users may experience inconsistent gameplay. Stadia requires account creation.

[5] Hotspot capability subject to carrier plan.

[6] For “All day”: Maximum battery life based on testing using a mix of talk, data, standby, and use of other features. Testing conducted on two major carrier networks using Sub-6 GHz non-standalone 5G (ENDC) connectivity. For “Up to 48 hours”: Maximum battery life based on testing using a mix of talk, data, standby, and use of limited other features that are default in Extreme Battery Saver mode (which disables various features including 5G connectivity). Testing conducted on two major carrier networks. For both claims: Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 battery testing conducted by a third party in California in mid 2020 on pre-production hardware and software using default settings, except that, for the “up to 48 hour claim” only, Extreme Battery Saver mode was enabled. Battery life depends upon many factors and usage of certain features will decrease battery life. Actual battery life may be lower.

    @459 I feel it’s a solid value

I use multiple phones, and I’m multi-platform, so if you ask me: Which are you, an android, iphone, mac, windows, or linux user?My answer is: yesBut I’ve never paid over $1000 for a phone. Ever. Never will. I like flagship phones though, and will buy a new-old-stock, or pristine used, 2 year old flagship model. This seemed to work for me quite well. I still have an iPhone 8 Plus that is awesome. Also part of the equation is security updates. Frequent, regular, like clockwork, security updates. With iPhone this is standard. With android phone makers, it’s hit and miss, mostly miss. Samsung does update their flagship frequently… for a time. But Samsung wants $1200 for their flagship. No thanks.Pixel? I heard Google provides regular, systematic updates. Their phones don’t cost $1000. Saw some good things said about the Pixel, thought I’d try the Pixel 4a 5G and see if I liked it. I do.I don’t have complex needs. Other than good security, and frequent security updates, I also like good pictures and video. The phone is light, the battery lasts a long time, the screen is just a little bit smaller than my iPhone 8 Plus and far lighter. The iPhone 8 Plus was a flagship at one time, and you can tell. The build quality is phenomenol. It’s also heavy, feels expensive, and the feature set and ecosphere quite complete. Almost heavy-ish. I love the phone, and it’s my backup now. The Pixel 4a 5G is minimalist, light, leaves you “uninvolved” or slightly detached from the massive Google ecosphere, unless you go in and configure the various bits and pieces of it.I’m very pleased with my purchase. Refreshing alternative to Samsung. Don’t get me wrong, Samsung flagship is a beast. But I never buy new $1000 plus phones. So the best that I could do is buy a used or NOS Samsung Note, which I did (a Note 9), and it was a terrible experience. Old android version, build quality was not too hot. If you ever look at buying a flagship phone that is 2 or 3 versons behind, Samsung can’t cut it. Apple is much better in that scenario. But I’m glad that there’s something that “fills the gap” between flagship phones, and just a nice, new, current, phone with frequent updates. Who better to get an android device from, then the people who make android?

    Exactly What I Wanted

I needed a replacement for my Samsung Galaxy s4 I bought in 2014. The Samsung phone still worked but with Android 5 most apps would not run on it. Also I was getting so many spam calls here in Las Vegas that it was driving me crazy.First priority I wanted a phone that would screen calls for me. None of the call blocker apps worked well enough for me and I did not want to pay extra charges for some premium app. When I heard that Google had a built in call screener, I decided I had to get a Pixel phone.Next I wanted a phone that would stay current with software updates as long as possible because I intend to keep it forever. Google guarantees three years worth of updates which is the longest I could find. So I had to get Pixel phone. Finally I wanted a phone with a big enough screen that i could read it easily as I am over 70 and my eyes aren’t what they used to be. This is why I picked the Pixel 4a with 5G instead of the Pixel 4a.I didn’t care about waterproofing or wireless charging, etc. because the phone was going into a case with a glass cover for protection.I got my phone from Amazon in early December after waiting for Prime day and Black Friday and being disappointed that there were no discounts. If I had waited a bit longer i could have gotten $50 off, but that’s life.I’ve had the phone now for around three months and it works well. I LOVE the call screener, It comes with Android 11 and should be good at least through Android 14. The size is just right and it is much faster than my old S4 and runs all the apps I will ever use.I don’t make many calls so one charge lasts almost 4 days. It charges completely from almost zero to 100% in about an hour and a half – much faster than my S4.The only weak point is that occasionally the fingerprint reader takes several tries to work.I signed up with T-Mobile on their $15/mo plan and the connections I get around Vegas are superb. Often I get a 5G connection and I have yet to have a dropped call. I rarely use data outside my home so 2GB/mo is plenty for my use. I rarely use the camera. I have heard it is great. But I’ll probably never know.Bottom line is I am very happy with this phone. I expect to keep it for many, many years.

    Great phone, highly recommend!

I upgrade from a Samsung S6, so this was a major upgrade. Battery life is great. I can make it through a whole day without needing a charge, which is much different than my old phone. Charger quickly too.Picture wise it’s a big upgrade to, night and dark photos are really great and daylight or highlight photos have a level of clarity and depth that I didn’t expect. Although I’m certainly no photo expert.. I would say the photo quality particularly the night time photos are a major step up if ur phone is from a few years ago or simply a cheaper model.Coming from a Samsung, the absence of bloatware was a major attraction to this phone. My only issue was lack of a back button which is easily fixable in the seeing menu under accessibility.Processor and speed wise.. I’m to understand this isn’t the latest processor but I don’t really game so it’s plenty responsive to me.This is a usb c charger.. I like the larger charger port as it seems more substantial, however didn’t like having to buy a bunch of new cords to replace the micro usb. Lack of wireless charger (I believe, never tried it myself) is a bit of a bummer.Price wise.. I’m satisfied and although I’ve never used one.. it’s hard to imagine justifying paying double or more of the price of this phone for the latest and greatest model.

    Disappointing battery life

One positive of note: Nicely designed with high screen-to-size ratio. Am hoping the current bugs will get worked out to upgrade this rating…. Despite other reviews: My battery lasts about 13 hours, ugh!; that’s less than my 3aXL. And have had zero luck connecting to my Bluetooth speakers or smartwatch, bummer. Can’t yet tell if photos are better or worse overall but telephoto shots remain poor. Despite self-isolating and therefore telling the phone it should not password-lock at this address, it locks up every time I go to use it after any more than just a few minutes.Update: Smartwatch & remote speaker have linked up with phone and so that warrants upgrade from 3 to 4- rating. The other concerns remain. Google does continue to make sometimes small but worthy refinements with their new models. Side note: I use ADW launcher which works satisfactorily. Have yet to find an excellent weather app as a clear, bold multi-day weather banner above app icons on home screen.

Solid 5G Phone still in 2023

I use my Pixed 4a 5G daily. It still takes great pictures, holds out well for performance as a mid range phone, and deals with the newest vanilla Android updates as Google releases them. I am currently on Android 14 with the November 5th Security Updates (current) and today is 12/1/2023. I plan to run this phone for another 6-8 months before swapping it out. Great phone if you need an inexpensive, but former flagship type phone that is built tough with decent specs.

A Thin, Light, Feature-Packed Phone That’s Easily Destroyed!

The Google Pixel 4A 5G truly sounds impressive on paper with its Night Vision mode, powerful videography capabilities, 5G connectivity, extensive suite of apps, large file storage capacity, all-day battery, video streaming, yadda yadda yadda. And it’s THIN! And it’s LIGHT! – Only 168 grams! There’s only one problem, however. It is as fragile as a potato chip. Six days ago, I was walking through my neighborhood with my nine-month-old Google Pixel 4A 5G in my front right pants pocket. The Pixel was encased in a Spigen Tough Armor case and was equipped with a tempered glass screen protector. Due to an unfortunate encounter with a dog, I tripped and fell – on my back, mind you. I was fortunately not hurt (although to this day I hope that worthless dog gets struck by lightning), but when I pulled my Pixel out of my pocket to exchange phone numbers with the dog’s owner, I discovered the damage you see in the attached pictures. The phone display showed what I can only describe as a “green screen of death.” From that moment to now, the phone has been totally unusable. The front screen is destroyed, the headphone jack is destroyed, and the back cover has partially separated from the front of the phone. And all this from a drop of about 33 inches. (I’m not a tall guy!) A drop that occurred while the phone was not only in its protective case, but was still in my pocket!Which leads to two philosophical questions. First, if a phone has impressive capabilities, yet is too fragile to take with you on a walk, what good is it? I don’t play video games, nor do I watch movies on smartphones. And if I want to take pictures, there are plenty of good cameras that I can buy. My Pixel’s capabilities are worthless to me now, and I am out $500 dollars for a phone that’s turned into a piece of junk.Second, what’s with the obsession that manufacturers and sellers of certain things have with weight and size? We’re constantly being bombarded with marketing that says that we should buy the lightest, thinnest versions of certain very expensive things – as if the presence of even two or three extra grams will pin us to the ground. It’s not like we’re competing in the summer Olympics! I am thinking right now of the Greek myth of Sisyphus being punished eternally by being forced to roll a large boulder up a hill only to have the boulder slip out of his hands just before he gets to the hilltop. And I can imagine someone coming to him and saying, “Dude – the reason you can’t roll that rock over the hill is because of the smartphone you’re carrying! It adds weight and slows you down! You should buy one of our phones, because they don’t weigh anything more than air!” Thin + light does not always equal “cutting-edge quality.” Thin + light = cheap sometimes.

    Goldilocks of the Pixels

First of all, I had the phone 4 days and I’m still putting it though it’s paces. The first thing I noticed right away after downloading everything is the battery life. The battery life is incredible on this phone…wow. I had it a few days now and I got, 10hrs 28min on screen time over 2 1/2 day’s with time left to spare. I didn’t make it to battery saver mode. This is with a mix of heavy, med to light use. It charges pretty quickly also. It took 1hr and 5mins to charge from 17% to 100%.Love the camera and this is one of the reasons why people buy this phone. And the extra Google features they put on this phone. And the timely upsides of course.I was surprised to find out that I had 5g. It’s pretty quick, T-Mobile version with me on Mint. I’m getting 40mbs to 162 dn to 15.9 to 57 up in areas I’ve tested so far. My friend is getting 7.4 dn where he lives so, everywheres different but so far I’ve been getting it everywhere I go.It’s a nice simple phone and it’s the Goldilocks of the new Pixel phones. No issues so far, works great. One I thing I don’t like is, the location of the power button on top coming from Moto phones. Other than that love the phone.

    Pixel 4A 5G & VZW 5G Band

Just got this phone a few days ago, so still evaluating it but wanted to clarify one point that some users are having a different experience with-the 5G functionality with VZW. I’ve attached a photo showing that the 4A 5G that I received from Amazon DOES work with VZW’s 5G band. Just wanted to get that point out here on the reviews, based on what I had read here I was ready to handle just a 4G connection, so I’m excited to see that 5G icon! So far, love this unit. I’ve always been a pixel fan, except for the pixel 4 and it’s huge forehead and chin, seemed to go opposite of the smartphone trends. Say what you want about a plastic build, but I love it. It’s so light. And what’s is the big draw to a glass back build? Glass breaks people, plastic doesn’t. And have fun paying for that glass replacement, since none of the phone insurance plans will cover it. And what do 99 % of us do with our glass sandwiches??? Slap a rubber or plastic case on it. I’d rather have the plastic build, yes with a case, but the weight is so much less since it isn’t wrapped in glass. Big proponent of the pure google experience on the pixel series and no overlaid UI from the manufacturer. Battery life on this one is good. Started out at 830 this morning and at 1900 was at 45%. Plenty of screen time during the day. So no complaints there. Speakers are incredible. Any time you have to turn the volume down on a phone cause the sound effects are blowing you away on that game or movie, is a sign of a great set of speakers. Charge time is fine. Not as fast as some of the flagships, but I’ve been able to go from 25% to 68% in 20 minutes. That’s good enough for me, and I’m rarely away from a plug or a battery pack, so charge time isn’t a huge factor for me. The fingerprint reader is what we’ve come to expect on the pixel – Faster than lightning. The in screen readers on the flagships are just no where near as reliable or fast. I’ll have to get used to the rear mount again, but that’s not a problem for me. If you need face recognition or wireless charging then this isn’t the device for you obviously. But I don’t list that as a kick in the nuts to the pixel 4A 5G, it just doesn’t have it, so if you need those options then look elsewhere. For my money, 459 for this phone is an awesome deal. This will be my daily driver for the near future, for sure.

    Good Phone🙂

I am amazed with the great and quick delivery of this phone! When I opened it, i am very pleased! It surpassed my expectations, the setup was quick and its a good phone with superb matte black design which I adored and the camera was perfect! I am happy with my purchase however i give it 4 stars since theres bo back button wherein we can go back to our previous tabs! But so far it passed my standards! Thankful since i got it for a good price! Better than paying 1,000 dollars for a smartphone! So if you are thinking to switch like me , dont hesitate to buy this! Its worth it!!

Yes this Unlocked version works on Verizon

One day in and I’m very happy with this phone. I inserted my Verizon 4G LTE SIM card and it worked without issue. My city does not have Verizon’s 5G UW band, and as for Verizon’s other 5G, the Nationwide band, coverage is hit or miss anyway based on their coverage map for my town. But who cares about 5G? I spend 97.5% of my time on WiFi. Even before the pandemic forcing work from home full time I still used WiFi in the office. Check the coverage maps and consider your use case, and realize it’s stupid for Verizon to charge an extra $100 for the same phone that they also load bloatware onto and place other unnecessary restrictions on.Update: There must be no such thing as a 5G SIM card because I was out the other day and my signal showed 5G anyway.

Unable to use sim cards overseas

Phone says fully unlocked but was unable to use foreign carriers. Therefore, had to post back via DHL which was more than half the price of the phone. Amazon did give me a refund of the phone in the end.

    Do not buy

I owned a Google pixel 4a 5g for about four years and never got a crack on the screen. Then it died. I thought since my phone lasted four years I would order another.Shortly after I started using the new phone. It would consistently shut down in my pocket. And some how got a crack in the screen when it was in my pocket. Then if I did drop it from a foot off the ground would shut down and start back up again.Total piece of crap.

Worst Android!!!!!! I’d rather waste my money on an Umidigi or Nuu

The bluebooth module is complete crap, I could be called a Power User; Smart Watch & Bluetooth Headset(s) & Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard, I’ve had far better connection and reconnections with my Samsung S8 Active or even the Samsung A20 I used for a short time, even excluding the amazing DEX program provided via Samsung.Google owns and operates Android so you’d expect it to be the best most fleshed out device however outside the good camera it is complete crap. You can’t use any type of heavy duty case; Otterbox Defender type, because the all swiping doesn’t work hardly at all with thicker cases, there is no option to use bottom buttons to avoid this.Since Google owns both Android, Chrome and YouTube you’d expect at least that was perfect but it is far from even decent. You can’t rotate the phone without clicking the full size button as it doesn’t rotate on its own like all androids I’ve used including the LG K7/8 etc.The finger print scanner is honestly the most finicky one I’ve used, it requires 3 or 4 attempts to figure out your finger each and every time.Biggest irritation is the confusion internally with fast charging. Unless your using just the provided charger its hit or miss if not only will it fast charge but even charge at all. I use a 3rd party magnetic charger since I have so many devices and it works amazing with all devices except this POS. You rarely get fast charge and many times it won’t even charge on its own charger.I could keep going but for the price go anywhere else, even those dreaded crap Chinese phones I listed above. Do not and I repeat do not waster your money on this pile of junk!!!!!

    The bells and whistles

The Pixel is a lot like the Samsung Galaxy, but better priced and a bit smaller for the pockets, you know.I wish I knew that new apps wereIntroducing themselves ALL THE TIME. And it will is a pain to get rid of them. Now there is a Chat app I can’t get off the screen. There is a lot of junk on the phone that I do not need. And the predictive text is now using pictures instead of the word. Wish I had known…

    Nexus 6P, Pixel XL, 4a 5G = eh (iPhone)

I’ve had this phone since April 2021.I previously had a Nexus 6P then a Pixel XL.I had high hopes and expectations for this phone.Alas, even after just spending $500 on this phone I’m considering moving to an iPhone. Why?This phone and Android 11 is just “eh”.Randomly laggy, buggy, and definitely not as buttery smooth as my partner’s iPhone SE 2020.I’ve loved my Google phones. I’ve loved the stock Android experience. I’m a Google One customer and my entire electronic life is wrapped up in the Google ecosystem. So I was hoping that buying the top of the line of both would have resulted in a stellar experience. But even after factory resetting it multiple times and being VERY picky about what apps I’ve installed, the entire experience is just eh.

Fabulous upgrade from a Google Nexus 5x

Having been a satisfied Nexus 5X since November 2015 I saw no reason to upgrade. Nexus battery is finally barely lasting a day. Decided on Pixel 4a 5g. The newer phone is slightly larger but much thinner. Seamless transition only required 3 additional logins as everything else transitioned automatically with google tools. Slightly warmer on new phone when watching a video. Teetering use 5G yielding 150/150 megabits/sec from AT&T. Wish I had done it sooner since GPS works in location where Nexus didn’t. Newer Android OS is much quicker responding to inputs with no pauses. Multi-day on a single charge with a more accurate battery charge state then Nexus.Great upgrade from Google

    Good phone for the price.

I like this phone except for the gestures. The (back) gesture is ackward. You can switch to three button controls if you want. I like the Motorola controls better. I’ve only had this phone for a couple of weeks so I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I would recommend this phone.

Good phone except one big issue.

I switched from the Samsung S line of phones to the Pixel 4a 5g about a month ago. The controls took a few hours to get used to, but it overall was easy to adapt to. I keep my phone in a case, so I don’t notice any difference with the phone being plastic instead of glass. The phone is powerful enough for everything I’ve had to do. It runs apps simultaneously without problems. My biggest issue is that google disabled smartcast on any device other than a Chromecast. There’s no real reason for it other than google trying to force me to buy more google products. It may seem like a small issue, but it’s enough of a nuisance to stop me from buying another one for other family members.

    Works with Straight Talk

It’s pretty great so far. There are some issues with service but that’s just where I’m at work lol. But it’s great. Works with Straight Talk!!Update: Switching from a Note 8 to this has been a bit difficult but not too bad. There’s some functions I wish this had (but can mimic ok) that are on the note series phones but all in all it’s been a great perchase. And HOLY SHEEET the pictures and video are awesome. Great phone for the price point. My only gripe is the screen could stand to be a bit brighter in the sun. That’s it though.

    Very good 5G phone

caveat: I only buy unlocked phones. You don’t have to go to a store to setup the phone. It’s not that hard to move a SIM card.Starting it the first time took some time, but a lot of that was downloading apps and sync. There was a step where I connected my old phone to transfer everything I wanted over. The phone works great. The screen is beautiful and bright. Haven’t really tried out the camera much, yet.A nice thing about it being from Google is the latest version of Android will always be available.

    its getting hot real easy

bought it November 2020’the phone does not worth the 599 dollars i paid that time.i have it for a little less than three years and it is getting warm very easy regardless of my desperate attempts to update it and solve the problem. Finally i thought to change the battery so that i can solve the problem because when i first bought it i did not have an issue of over heating. The people that i took it, said to me that they would not try and put a new battery because the screen is paper thin and it brakes very easily .So i have to buy a new phone because battery plus screen is almost 140 dollars.

Good for you have and use. Faster internet speed because of the 5G and size is perfect for me. I have been using for two months now and the only issue is battery life is short. I get about 8 to 10 hours normal use like calling, text, YouTube and other social media apps… But 10 to 15 hour if I only make and receive calls and texts.

    Poor follow up

Immediately upon receipt look for signs of poor repair quality. If there is a problem – return. There were some suggestions of an amateurish replacement of a screen. Off color adhesives extended beyond the screen. Then the screen dislodged from the body. Because the phone was in a case I thought a gorilla glass screen was separating from the screen. This phone is used and under warranty. I assumed the phone could have quality issues. But I thought they would be addressed. So far, crickets for 6 days.

Google is falling down wrt assuring network compatibility and quality control

The phone is in the right price range and functionality, but was defective. While it could make calls, it could not receive calls. The store employees that helped us said that this was a common problem with this phone. Also, Google apparently did not lay the necessary groundwork to assure the phone was compatible with the T-Mobile network. We verified that it was compatible with the Sprint network, but did not know 2 important caveats:1) the phone can only access the 5G Sprint network in downtown Chicago, and cannot access the T-Mobile 5G network at all,2) the phone is NOT compatible with the T-Mobile network that Sprint customers are being moved to.We liked the initial polish and functionality but it was defective and we switched to a Samsung (more expensive) phone which worked without issue.

    So Far, So Good

I’m not high-tech when it comes to my ‘cell phone’. This replaced my old Motorola flip-phone, as 3G is no longer supported by AT&T. I don’t use all the features as of yet. Every time I play with it, I find more and more useful features. Very high quality resolution and a very sharp image. I would recommend.

    Great phone!

I swapped it out from a Pixel 2 xl last week.It is great for that replacment if you want on the android update train again. The phone is actually not as wide as the pixel2 xl and fits in the hand better than old model. You even get a larger screen than the pixel 2 xl 6 to 6.2 in.The whole punch camera is a bit odd but learing to like over the large bezels the Pixel 2 xl had. You even get a larger battery in this phone over old one,Li-Po 3885 mAh. It is packed with 128 gig storage!

    Feels like a Disposable phone

I know I’m more than likely the rarest type of user for smartphones, as I don’t particularly care about the camera, I don’t think facial recognition is particularly practical, I rather not use fingerprint security because honestly I’ll forget my password otherwise. I’m also neither a gamer (at least not on mobile) nor do I use it as my primary work tool (that’s what the desktop is for).I am however a rather clumsy person who uses public transport, and this phone is NOT up to that kind of use. The construction of this phone is too thin, round and smooth to be practical for pocket carry (without a case, and screen protector). I do enjoy listening to music, and I have to say while I don’t ever expect anything fantastic from a phone’s speakers (I use headphones for that), they are not only surprisingly weak but have a pretty heavy skew for the bass tones which is bad because I need a strong mid range for alarms and notifications.Talking about the speakers and the flimsy construction. It is worth noting that this phone is soo thin and the bass skew is soo strong that the whole phone feels like its vibrating along with the music, even when its at medium volume. For the speakers to rattle the phone this much, I feel safe in saying that this phone won’t survive 2 years of city use.As for software, hardware. Stock Android is the best android so no complaints here, and the hardware is almost too powerful for what I use it for, and I have no doubt this power for the phone SERIOUSLY contributes to its middling battery-life. While new the battery lasts about 12 hours of constant use, but as the phone ages I fear this will rapidly turn into 2 hours, and that contributes to the feel of disposable phone. This is a phone that REQUIRES a strong case and screen protector to be even remotely durable.Overall its a decent phone but not one I can recommend

Becomes so slow. Do not buy.

At first it was ok for the price. Pictures are amazing once you take them (we’ll get to that). The 5G depends on what carrier you have. For me I have T-Mobile and half the time if it says 5G and full bars, that basically means I have no service and can’t connect to the internet. If I have 5G and it’s half or very little bars, that means I have good service. I know, it’s stupid and makes no sense. The OS is good overall but as usual, Google is stripping down or dumbing down all their services in some way or another. That means for the Pixels less options and less customization. So if there’s a way you can revert back to Android a year ago, then do it. Otherwise it’s ok but inching closer to the “Apple* mentality of here’s 1 option, just take it.Now for the camera.Holy hell the delay when you hit the button and it actually taking the picture is absolutely abominable when you first start the camera app. If you’re an iphone user, this is your ammunition. You can use this to make fun of Android, full stop. It’s hilarious. If you’re a photographer and need to capture stuff in the moment, stop reading this and buy something else. It’s atrocious. I took a 2 minutes 4k video and it took 15 minutes to rotate the video 90 degrees. Yep. If you’re willing to wait sometimes up to 5 seconds to take your picture then this is good haha. Everything else is typical android.Overall, just save your money and get the flagship pixel phones with a processor that’s actually worth a damn like the Pixel 4, 4xl, etc. They made sure to put the 5G capability in the mediocre models and it sucks.

Great camera, relatively smooth operation, concerns with dependability

I received my 4A 5G with much excitement, with high expectations based on reviews i had seen before. However, there some things that I had to note.Pros:1. Compared to most of my previous phones, the sound quality was pretty good. I wouldn’t think a typical user will be disappointed with the output of the speakers.2. Screen quality wasn’t bad. This isn’t a flagship and so comparisons to one wouldn’t be fair.3. The fingerprint scanner was pretty fast and accurate.4. If charging before bed, the battery would last throughout the workday and evening for me with moderate use.5. Love the camera. It was a major reason for purchase and it didnt disappoint.Cons:1. While the phone did facilitate a transfer of settings and data from my old phone, it didn’t do so all that well. Photos did not always come across in their original albums, and worse (for some reason) didn’t all keep the dates. the result was a jumbled mess that took ages to rectify. It was made worse with the fact that the phone didn’t come with USB-A connection. And No, google photos only made it worse, sending tonnes of jumbled images i did not want backed up, to my drive.2. while the stock android experience is great in that it leaves you free from bloatware, the apps preloaded (which largely can all be deleted) don’t always compare to the contemporaries used with lets say Samsung. I had far more control and enjoyment using their photo gallery, integrated readers, and even the phone app. As an example, If a contact had multiple numbers assigned, I couldn’t easily determine which had been used most recently without scrolling down however far to find it. Samsung took far fewer steps to show all numbers for the contact and the dates/times connected. The lack of bloatware meant id have to load items to be able to function, so I had to get a new gallery app, and pdf reader.3. the largest issue i had was that in the setup process, the phone was alarmingly warm. This was far worse than the setups of any of my previous phones, even the so called cheap and slow ones. I also noticed it got warm again (though not as significantly as during setup) at points when multiple applications are running. Those weren’t big apps either (e.g. scrolling through the notes app while on a call).Edit: Since my original post I’ve noticed that during video calls, the phone regularly got hot; alarmingly so. restarting and ensuring multiple applications weren’t running at the same time didn’t seem to help. In one instance I was in an airconditioned car, with sunlight on the phone, though not particularly hot to the point where I’d even sweat. The phone within three minutes gave an overheating warning and started to shut down functions. I’m still a bit concerned given the fact that my previous lower spec’d phones did the same tasks without overheating to this degree. How will the phone hold up if I’m in the warm outdoors for a protracted period and need to maintain contact for emergencies.

Second Pixel that broke after 2 years – Terrible customer service

Just broke completely with no reason after 2 years, after my first Pixel broke the same way, after 2 years. Before purchasing it, I believe Google Support told me this model would have a better life, so I naively purchased this newer model.2 years later, here we go again, broken again, I have to spend all this time I don’t have to discuss the matter, find a new phone, reinstall everything, and grieve my lost data. No mention to the financial waste for me, and ecological waste for the planet.I reached out to the support team who seemed comprehensive at first. After they failed at helping fixing the problem, they advised me to try to get it repaired somewhere since my warranty expired (I guess phone warranties are so short nowadays as brands are totally aware they sell you crap), or to get a new phone. They gave me a 20% coupon, but I reached out again as I was still concerned about getting one of their phone after the 2 phones I got failed me so bad.The person advised me to get a Pixel 7 “which will have an improved battery and life”. With the current sale + my coupon, the price would be ~360$. “Not bad” he said.Except that when I added the product to the cart and applied the coupon, the sale was removed so the final price was MORE expensive than when I didn’t apply a coupon at all.I reached out AGAIN to the support team who after a while told me to contact another team. I contacted this other team today, I have enjoy to waste time with people who are not helpful at all, and a robot like person kept saying “Sorry – discounts are not stackable” showing no sign of concerns as the previous team lied to push a customer to purchase a product, and finally shut the conversation after a while.I didn’t even ASKED for a coupon the first time, so why a company would send an unusable coupon at the first place, valid to purchase phones only except that if you use it you’ll pay a more expensive price than anywhere else?! it’s insulting and just shows the lack of consideration of a company for their customers.

Unless you get the Verizon model 5G won’t be true 5G assuming….

The phone is solid, it does everything I would expect, it replaced my Pixel XL and for the most part I am happy with the phone. However, in my research last night I found that unless you are on Verizon and get the Verizon Pixel 4a 5G you will not have access to what most would consider true 5g, which is is anything in the 6ghz spectrum and above at the time of this writing. The 5G you will get on carriers other than Verizon is called Sub-6GHZ, and while speeds and coverage are better, it seems like the industry is boasting of it’s mmWave service in their advertising and I think this is what most are expecting when they here 5g.Does this matter much today? No, most people don’t get a mmWave signal, I had to call ATT to find the nearest one to me and it is over 1500 feet away, which is the about how far an mmWave signal can reach, assuming no obstructions. In most cases it won’t reach that far given the obstructions it will have to pass through. This is not meant to cast a negative light on the phone, just to give realistic expectation if you get one.

Getting harder and harder to justify paying for high end devices

High end devices like the Note 20 Ultra are getting easier and easier to pass up. This is a great device, I had a Note 20u for a few months because I wanted to check out the telephoto lens. Very cool and something I’d love to see added back to the Pixel line but in the end it isn’t worth paying triple the price.Speed wise the 4a 5g is only slightly slower than my Note 20 and in practical terms I rarely if ever notice any slowdowns. Same with battery life, I’m seeing similar battery life and I had to turn my Note’s refresh rate down to 60 to get decent battery life. No bloatware? Nice plus as well.My biggest beef with my note was the price and the fact that I had nagging issues with Samsung’s crapware / system software. Lastpass had continual issues due to the Note’s aggressive battery management. I white listed it but there was some sub process getting shut down which allowed overlay and it would cause Lastpass to stop filling. Then I had problems with getting the stupid thing to connect with my Chromebook for unlocking / messaging. The pixel just works. You would be hard pressed to beat what you are getting for the money here. I’m a heavy user, don’t hesitate to buy this and pass on the overpriced “premium” devices. They are a waste of money.

    Very happy

I needed a new phone. My iPhone had no more storage, the home button wasn’t working, and typing was sometimes messed up. I was nervous about the size of this new phone, but although it’s 1.5 lbs more and a bit wider and longer, it’s still manageable. I was able to easily add all the apps I needed and adjust all the settings. The finger recognition is excellent so far. I’m excited about the new SOS feature (but I’m guessing all new phones have it now). Battery life doesn’t seem great, and I wish the charging cord included was longer, but I’ll deal with it. The only real frustration is that all my whatsapp data got lost when transferring to this phone: conversations, pictures and videos. 😕😩.In general, though, the phone is easy to use and I’m happy with my choice, so far.

Love it. Nice phone worth every penny.

I’ve been on the market for a new phone wanted something with large memory capacity and awesome camera system without paying a high price tag for it so I stumbled across the pixel 4a 5g I’ve always been an Android girl so wanted to stick with what I know this phone is very nice fits in my hands well good size and weight. Runs fast and takes amazing pics. All my stuff from my old Samsung A50 fit on memory and I still got 100gb out of 128 pretty awesome. And the battery is amazing I’m on my phone a lot and battery will last me about a day and half playing games texting surfing the web all that sometimes battery will last 2 days just depends. Speakers are loud if there turned all the way up you can feel vibrations in the phone it doesn’t bother me but might others. The screens picture quality is very crisp and clear adjust to the lighting very fast. I love my new phone would definitely recommend to others.

    Doesn’t work on Verizon 5G

Now I know why these were on sale here. Does not work on Verizon 5G. Might not work on other 5G networks also ?It’s a nice phone, but I bought it to use on Verizon’s 5G network. Now the sales are over and I’m kinda stuck with it unless I want to cough up more $$ to get one that works on 5G. Should have gotten the phone at the Verizon store while they were marked down. Stupid me……I had tech service try to figure it out a couple of times. Been in the store also. Just had them install another 5G sim card in the phone. Still doesn’t work on 5G.UPDATEJust left the verizon store again with a new sim card. I get some 5G in spots now. My buddies Samsung phone is 5G almost all of the time. Mine isnt most of the time and we’re in the same place.I”ve also been getting weaker signals and more dropped calls than my Pixel 2XL that i just retired. This is the first and only time i buy a phone off of a website. I would consider this phone a factory second. If my 2 XL wasn’t losing battery capacity, id send the 4A 5G back for a refund.

    WHat a great phone

I initially tried the Pixel 5 and returned that to Google. Then i waited until the 4A5G was perfected and got it last week. Easy to work with – good size on the various touch pads so i can use it easily. It seems to be the perfect upgrade from my Moto-x4 and i am very glad i got it. It comes packed with a charger . cord and pin device to get access to the sim card tray which is so easy to use. Sound is very good and can get as loud as i want. I am extremely happy with this phone.

I’ve been using this phone for 2 months now and it’s an absolute beast! The battery takes me a full day doing multiple tasks like surfing the internet, email, and the occasional texting with WhatsApp. Its also part of my daily commute to and from work using the google maps navigation and Spotify to play music with the car’s bluetooth connectivity. I can say its been one of the best informed purchases i have made recently.

Can’t believe it took me this long to get a Pixel

Love the camera. The wide angle lens is proving really useful during our trips. Also happy that the aspect ratio is by default 16:9 (my husband’s iphone 11 keeps reverting to 4:3 which was annoying). I’m happy this particular pixel still has an audio jack and a finger print scanner at the back instead of being replaced by facial recognition. I prefer the finger print scanner to be located at the bottom front (like in my moto g6) as it would have been easier to access but I understand why it’s designed to be in the back instead. Overall, really happy with this phone.

The phone is okay but the description is misleading/wrong.

I will keep this review short and sweet. I got this phone mainly because Qi charging was listed as supported. “[17] Qi-compatible. Wireless charger sold separately.” No. It is not Qi-compatible. If you want to charge it wirelessly, you need to buy a receiver — not the same as a charger. Even with a receiver you will still need a charging pad. I’ve seen all sorts of misleading information about this feature and Pixel phones. Some even saying that wireless charging support came in around Pixel 3. According to Google — this phone does not support Qi charging. If you want the wireless charging, get the Pixel 5.

I love the color of the phone and the android experience is really smooth no bloatware like other phones the fingerprint reader works all the time and it’s really fast no face recognition but with the time we are in it’s prefect and yes you still have nfc on the phone and battery life is great I get 6 hours of on-screen time but I watch a lot of videos most of the time and when I don’t and just use it on a day on day us i get a full day it’s a great phone and the cameras are the same as the pixel 5 i rather this over the 5

    A+- Will purchase from again

I was very leary on purchasing a phone through here, we have always went to the cell phone store, but I will definitely buy through here again! This was just like the one that we bought from the store. Saved us some money from buying through here and we didn’t have to be at the store for a few hours getting a new phone. switching all the info to the new one was really easy. I will probably be buying off here for now on. Highly recommend, just as described, speedy delivery.

    The Best Pixel

In my opinion this is the best pixel there is if you are overly concerned with wireless charging there’s no point in paying so much more for a smaller screen just to have wireless charging to buy the pixel 5 that’s the only difference between the 4A 5G and the five other than the pixel 5 having the metal body I don’t plan on going swimming with my phone anytime soon so I don’t see the need and paying all that extra money for that capability either just being real every single thing else about the two phones is the exact same except for the size the pixel 5 bis smaller.

    Truly impressive mid range phone

Display is gorgeou, responsive inputs even with large figers, stellar sound quality and great camera for the price range. Awesome range of both usb and wireless device support, great cpu power for the cost, really good battery life unless you crank up brightness and run gpu heavy apps as expected. Be sure to invest in power banks for streaming games and other media as well as native android games. 5g is glorious if verison ever lets visible out of that strangling grip and raises those caps a bit I will be a happy camper. This phone is wonderful though. Well worth the price.

    Very happy with this phone

I got new hearing aids whose controlling app required a version of Android newer than Oreo on my favored but ancient LG V20. So I wanted a new phone that would support the app plus 5G plus a 3.5mm jack plus did not cost an arm and a leg. the 4a 5G fit the bill and I have been very happy with it. I had live translate on my old phone that let me hear what the tour leader was saying while on the bus and it is still there. But in addition there is live captioning that translates audiobooks, videos, calls etc in real time. I also prefer the fingerprint reader because I have doubts that face-recognition would would with covid masks. The battery is a little under-powered (I had a 10,000 mah monster for the V20 which had easily replaceable batteries) but it picks up quite a bit of charge in a few minutes. So I am very happy with this baby.

    Very nice phone. Timely updates!

First of all, it gets timely updates straight from google. This alone is the killer argument for this phone. The UI is snappy, though I turned off some swipe gestures as they were interfering with zooming in chrome. The apps I am using on it are running smooth. It has good connectivity and the call quality is also very nice.Videos look great and the sound this phone puts out is better than I expected.Battery life is good, even when using it as a hotspot. The camera is not as important to me than to all the reviewers on YouTube. It seems to be a very nice camera, but I did not test it extensively to make any qualified statements about it.The only think to improve would be the aspect ratio of the screen. I personally prefer wider screens, but a narrow screen like this is not a deal breaker for me.

    Update on review

I use a Consumer Cellular sim card on the ATT network. The phone worked well for a while, but now it sends most incoming calls right to voicemail. I spoke with Consumer Cellular and the rep thought it was fixed. A moment after hanging up, another call went straight to voicemail. Since it is literally impossible to speak with a Google/Pixel representative, I think I am out $500. Don’t buy this phone!I have managed to restore the phone to full use, and it is receiving calls again. I played with many settings, and when I disabled the VoLTE setting, the phone function returned. Go figure.

Not quite as big as I thought

Everything works great, migration from my LGv20 was easy using the included cord. It has a headphone jack. Everything is fine. The only complaint (and I should have done a little more research) is the screen is a little smaller than I expected. The LGv20 is spec’d at 5.7″ while the Pixel4a5G is 6.2″….but the pixel is 19.5:9 while the older LG is 16:9. I knew this, but I thought the extra 1/2 inch would have more than made up the difference, but I didn’t do the math. The end result is the pixel screen is ever so slightly smaller. Most newer phones are going to the 19.5:9, so if you are coming from an older 16:9 phone, be aware.

    Pixel, the new iPhone

Yeugh…. I was excited about the spiffy camera, mostly the reason I bought it. But it turns out it’s full of bloatware, and Google apps completely take over all your interface. Contact app was a mess, first had to figure out how to remove all the email contacts synched to it and once I did, the remaining contacts were uneditable. Maybe a bug? The stupid black search bar on the homescreen is unremovable, so I after much forum searching I had to actually had to download a Launcher app to customize my home/side screens to get that out of the way.I don’t like haptic feedback on my phone (the vibrations when touching) so I turned it off, but I was still getting them when using the keyboard tool. I also did not like the weird low sounds of the keyboard tool instead of a regular ‘click’ or ‘tap’ sound, so either I had to download a new app for that (which there aren’t many for Android 11 or Pixel) or just ignore it.And unfortunately all these new phone models are so large, so if you have small hands, it makes it difficult to grab the entire phone comfortably while touching the screen. So have to go one-handed mode, plus have a finger loop or something to keep it in place while you use it. But I can’t reach the opposite top of the screen anyway.Battery life is good, video stabilization is good. Didn’t try many other features before I gave up and returned it. Now just waiting on my refund and hoping we get some decent smaller models on Samsung…

    Great mid ranged phone

Pros:Snappy fingerprint readerLong battery life when screen is offDecent speakersFantastic, easy to use camera that takes great picturesClean and simple user interface with minimum bloatClear, clean callsCons:Terrible screen on battery life, seriously YouTube and Prime Video destroy my battery lifeUses a slower display so feels a bit clunky in comparison to a flagship and even many other midrange phonesHad it just kill Audible for no reason a few times once the screen powered off.Now I know I really can’t say “no expandable storage” because it’s a Pixel, but I didn’t really even think about it with a base 128gb or storage and the ability to leave out the bloat leaves a ton of that open.BUT….With Google music switching to YouTube music I now have to load all my songs onto the phone where I could once stream them so that space that was saved, really isn’t saved anymore.*6 month update*Touchscreen occasionally just stops working for a few seconds at a time, almost like it’s lagging. Storage isn’t even half full. Getting mildly annoyed.

    Love my Pixel 4a

Purchased as new unlocked from Amazon . . .My carrier is Verizon . . The SIM card from my Pixel 2 worked perfectly. I have never purchased a phone outside of Verizon . . .I was nervous. But the Google set-up steps to transfer all contacts, apps & info went extremely smooth. I loved my Pixel 2 never any probs but it no longer received updates and the battery was shot. . . But gotta say I am loving this Pixel 4a upgraded to Android 12. My age is 67 😊

    One of the speakers quit

phone worked fine from purchase (some time in april or May 2021) until last week when i noticed that the volume and sound quality seem to have dimished. After trying for somewhile to figure out why, i noticed that one of the speakers did not work. it was completely dead. i went thru the set-up info etc and could not find anywhere that the balance is adjustable or that one speaker could be muteded. i tried many different sources , music, npr radio, you tube and speaker still did not work. My warrenty is for 1 year so i am sending it back to google. just hate the hassle of being without phone for God knows how long. i would perfer to return it to amazon, but the deadline to return has passed. i’m sure that the speaker is a fluke. otherwise i like the phone. dang sure had to get used to it. ive owned Motorola exclusively sinc the 90’s, my son had a fiveyear old pixel so i figured they were reliable

Not intuitive, texting issues, great battery and photos

When I visited stores the Samsung phones were always hot and that is why I switched to the Pixel. Photos are great, it charges quickly, and holds the charge for a long time, but many of the options are irritating. For example, if I hold the volume button the media volume is changed instead of the ringer volume. Ring volume should be first and I should not have to go into the volume options to choose ringer volume. I and other people I know with Pixels have experienced issues while texting and agree it is not intuitive. Other phones often do not receive our text, but they show as sent. It is very random. I feel like the phone requires too much effort and wish it was more user friendly.

    Awesome Upgrade

Im a little biased since i went from an iphone 6 to this but i am pretty blown away. At first i was disappointed in the display and camera and thought it was grainy until my dumb*** took off the protective film that comes on it brand new. The display is clear and great, the camera is just amazing, night sight is spectacular. The photo sphere is brand new tech to me so i love it! Its nice to be back with android again after so many years, i missed the customization of phones including background, app placement, sounds and so on. Finger print sensor isnt new to me, but compared to the iphone, its night and day on speed and performance. Spoiled people complain about the dumbest little things, but in my opinion this is a solid phone. Posted a before and after of night sight used.
