Beautiful camera but…
Clumsy operation with the PSAM / traditional dials combination design while the native z lenses offers no aperture rings. Very confusing!NO interval steps access when using SS dial for SS unless locking into 1/3 steps mode where you can only use back dial for SS.The menu is even worst than Fuji’s which is not organized well already. Some term/ name choices of the parameters were not as consistent in the menu to me. Also seems accessing “edit I-menu” function via MY MENU is not working. It could be user (my) error but I still can’t figure out after i spent quite some time on it.The play button should be placed on the right side. Putting all the way to the left top corner makes quick review / focus check after shots clumsy. The manual focus green box confirmation is amazing tho. Hope it also have Fuji’s split screen for manual focus to make final fine tune ( if necessary) even easier as pin focus point is not available for manual focus. The EVF is very nice but the refresh rate is quite slow in today’s standard. Some users reported on internet that they experienced EVF lag or refresh rate drop when shooting although I have not experienced such issue myself. The picture control- ( similar thing to Fuji’s film sim) is not as user friendly as Fuji’s film sim. It works to a degree but just not as intuitive as Fuji when customizing your own recipes. Nikon offers a software to that and there is a website out there dedicated to this feature but I am not sure if I can get the color easily as on the Fuji cameras still.Pros: built quality, mount / flange adaptability, nostalgic body design ( one of the all time best looking body besides Leica M bodies), tactile dials and controls, auto focus, 3D tracking, manual focus green box confirmation, image quality, one of the best AWB system out there, image quality is top notch, IBIS is one of the best also, simple standard jpeg SOOC color ( without sophisticated film-sim) is better than almost any system.Overall it is a nice attempt from Nikon. It is absolutely beautiful and well built with very nice IQ. But.. There are still lot of areas to catch up and improve to make a great old school digital cameras..something Nikon intends to make it to be.I would recommend this camera to more sophisticated users and to those who like the style of the look but don’t mind use it the way as a regular digital mirrorless.

Amazing low light & built like a tank!
This full frame camera has a great low light 24.5MP sensor, it will focus in almost complete darkness and the noise is very well controlled up to 12800 ISO. The images produced are very pleasing. Has built in image stabilization and has weather sealing. Its a blast to use in full manual, relying on the top dials for exposure adjustments. However you can also use it like any other camera with front and rear dial controls.I found a good way to use the top ISO dial is to set AUTO ISO on, and under sensitivity, set the max limit at the lowest to ISO 200 (although you can set this higher if you want). The camera will then automatically choose between ISO 100 to 200 (or what ever limit you set) if the top ISO dial is set to 200 or lower. Then when setting the top ISO dial to a higher ISO number the camera sets auto ISO up to (or lower) that new limit as needed for proper exposure. This allows you to quickly adjust the max ISO with the top dial without having to go into the menu or remap a button to disable or enable auto ISO. Also when an ISO is set, you can easily use the exposure compensation dial to fine tune above or below the metered ISO value. Alternative you can turn off AUTO ISO and just use the dial manually without the camera adjusting to lower values. Its very easy once you realize how Nikon engineers intended this to work.I found I needed the smallrig grip accessory as the Zf handles better with the added grip, especially with FTZ adapted lenses. Although its not an overly large camera, it did feel a little cramped when handling it. Its a design trade off for the stylish retro look.I got the 40mm F2 kit, and found the 40mm F2 SE lens produced very pleasing images, however I thought the build quality was too plasticy feeling and took a little away from the overall experience. The Zf is built like a tank, its very solid feeling, it has a metal frame, top plate and bottom plate. The rear button area is plastic. I think the flippy LCD screen frame may be metal as well. The battery door is plastic. The sensor doesn’t have a shutter that closes when the camera is off or when the lens comes off. Care is advised when changing lenses to avoid introducing dust or contaminates into the sensor area.I noticed my AF-S 50mm F1.8 G focuses a little slower and hunts somewhat when mounted using the FTZ adapter.I had 3 bright pixels visible on the sensor on higher ISOs. They were resolved by running pixel mapping within the setup menu. This is not uncommon and each of my other cameras had similar issues. Finally I used the Snapbridge app to connect via bluetooth (no issue), but when I tried to connect via WiFi, it wouldn’t work telling me the password was incorrect (password was correct). I had to configure the camera WiFi connection as an open network for my phone to connect to it. I was then able to browse images and download them to my phone. During the WiFi connection process while fiddling with the password, the camera froze up and required the battery removed in order to restore normal operations.

Probably the best digital camera Ive owned overall
Great camera; build quality like 80s DSLR – brass top plate and knobs, metal body. Very intuitive if you shot film back in the day – having an actual ISO dial up top along with exposure compensation is great. Autofocus is amazing (still working on optimizing that for my use). IMHO the SmallRig grip is a must; this camera is somewhat literal to the 1980s industrial design, and not the easiest to hold. The big surprise is the 40mm lens… I originally didn’t love it, wide open its a hair soft… I ordered the 50mm 1.8 to compare, and it’s fantastic, but a bit large, so sent back; the 40 – stopped down a bit – surpasses the 50 in sharpness.. while being a tiny, light lens. Overall a fantastic piece of kit.

Great camera!
The Nikon Zf is pretty amazing. Coming from the Z7, the autofocus andc3D tracking is fantastic, the image quality is suburb, the ibis is incredible, the camera body is really solid and has a very professional feel. I have large hands and while I find it perfectly fine to shoot with the camera as is I’d really recommend the smallrig handle or your hands will fatigue quite quickly.

Beautiful!
Beautiful beautiful camera!Autofocus and VR is next level. Colors and image quality is magnificent.Few things that I dislike is the fully articulating screen. I prefer the tilting screen of the z8 and of the Fujifilm xt5. Also, if you don’t use the small rig grip extension, the camera is just impossible to hold sturdily. The auto subject detect even using manual lenses is very helpful. So, if you’re into manual lenses, old or new, you will enjoy this camera a lot.

Uncluttered
Great technology inside and uncluttered outside. Hard to hold one-handed for length of time. Needs aftermarket grip and/or strap. Second storage card is teensy weensy and difficult to install properly (for me anyway).Takes nice photos, if wielded by competent user.

Go to EDC camera
I want to start out by saying the ergonomics of this camera are horrible and you will absolutely need to add a grip for it to be somewhat comfortable.Outside of the ergonomics the picture quality, auto focus, and image stabilization is outstanding. I primarily use this with small primes.Build quality is top notch and its little bit bigger and heavier than you might expect. It also makes a great back camera to my Z8 which is my workhorse. This camera is something that I highly recommend and I highly suggest getting the newwer or smallrig grips.

The Nikon Zf is Excellent
I really like my Nikon Zf. It’s really powerful and captures some really good looking images. Even with the cheapest 40mm f/2 lens the images are still very nice looking. Just make sure to get the Small Rig grip. You’re gonna need it.

Love the retro vibes
Such a great camera from a picture quality and just overall build quality and feel perspective. The retro vibes stand out in a world of digital sameness. Despite the many naysayers, I have no problem with the smaller grip — for the aesthetics, it’s appropriate and would look terrible with the grip from my Z8. Most of the time I’m using a 40MM anyway so the overall weight and sizing it perfect.

Retro perfection at it’s best
I’m a professional full-time photographer. My Z7II is my primary camera but sometimes I just want to have fun and still get pro-level results… THIS is the camera I use. At the time of writing this review, it’s still too knew to work with my flashes, so this is for my continuous lights-only right now. But I love this camera.

beautiful retro looking camera
This is the best-looking camera I have. I got a used Nikon fm2, and it is very close to that. I have a Fm3, Nikon DF, and Nikon Z8. I have a lot of Nikons.Usability:+The AF is much better than the Z7ii/ z6. I still think the Z8 is better even if they both have the expeed 7 processor. But I am happy to say the ZF’s Af is great and good enough for most use. I shoot a little action on it. It has 3d tracking like the z8 and the old DSLR (D750). Shoot a disco light concert with roller skaters. Did better than my z7ii for the roller skaters.+Eye AF is as good as z8. I use the back button AF in C- continuous. I only switch to 3D when I do sports or action.-It lacks the U1 and U2 I had with the Z7ii.-It doesn’t have the memory shooting blank like the Z8, either.-Less reprogrammable buttons.+I usually place the iso and shutter speed buttons on the C or 1/3 step because I prefer to use the scroll wheels like my z8.+No joystick, no problem; Nikon finally lets people use the rear LCD corner to move the focus point while looking at the EVF.*EVF seems like any Nikon milc.*I prefer the Nikon Z8 rear screen, but it is nice to have the side swivel screen for selfies like on the z30. Video people prefer the side swivel screen; photographers prefer the rear 2-way tilting screen.-No added battery grip option+The size is smaller than the z8, so it can fit in more of my smaller camera bags.Battery charging-Comes with no external charger, less waste , but I have tons of Nikon en-15 charger so I use that.-You need to use a usb-c charger to wall plug or to usb-c port, won’t charge with a regular usb male wall plug.Handling-Ok, it holds like an old film camera, like a metal brick. I shot a 3- 4 hours event with this, so it wasn’t too bad. I use a blackrapid strap, my event shooting accessory. I hold the lens with my left hand that also cradle the body. The left hand is the dominant in holding the camera. For the Z8 I still use the left hand to cradle, but I can also hold the camera with just my right.+You can buy a grip if needed. I got a grip for my DF, but won’t for the ZF. When I shoot, I want each camera to feel different. Go the z30 too, great for traveling. Like having many cars and they all drive differently.IQ image quality-24mp is Nikon’s most used sensor. After using the 45mp from the Z8, I prefer the higher megapixel for portrait and detail. Things look a tad sharper if you pixel peep on a larger MP. I actually wished it was 33mp. Lowlight IQ. Looks a tad cleaner than the z8, but with topaz lab you can reduce the noise so it isn’t a big issues to me anymore. With more mp even at night you can use topaz lab ai sharper and it looks better, since it has more mp to borrow from. I might prefer lowlight to be higher mp for the noise reduction software but still have moreI got the kit, and the 24-70 f4 is small, light, and sharp.Built quality:+lost more metal than the z8 and most other Nikons.+dials. It looks great.*Haven’t really used the video feature yet.I was going to hold off for the z6iii, maybe next year, as my second camera to the Z8. But the ability to shoot differently from z8 makes it fun to try a different feel. I just like taking this camera with me for fun and the streets. A beautiful camera, for sure.

timeless classic in mirrorless form
great sensor, best in class auto-focus, and nikkor glass. remarkable engineering with a timeless look. the dials help the photographer think about exposure and composition. also wonderful with vintage manual lenses because of face/eye focus assist.

Terrible Ergonomics
Purchased the Zf after great reviews with regard to features. Looking to upgrade my Nikon Z6. I had a Nikon FE so the style was appealing. However, the retro style is not conducive to good ergonomics and holding and handling longer lenses (24-120). Unfortunately I had to return the Zf and will wait until Nikon releases the Z6iii update.
