Pure Natural Beauty
Few subjects showcase the strengths and shortcomings of a lens more clearly than the human face. Our eyes are so adept at detecting focus issues, facial shape distortion, unnatural skin tone—nearly any imperfection. The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S captures the human form in breathtaking clarity and sharpness.
Dreamy Bokeh
Beautifully blurred backgrounds naturally, and sometimes dramatically, direct your viewer’s eyes to the main subject. The nine rounded aperture blades of the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S give defocused points of light a soft, round consistent shape. Plus, the transition from tack-sharp foreground to dreamy background is smooth and natural.
Great for Documentaries, Interviews and More
The artistic qualities, natural perspective, quiet autofocus and smooth aperture control of the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S make it outstanding for video work in documentaries, interviews, B-roll footage and anywhere you want to isolate your subject from the background. Use the customizable control ring to create smooth iris transitions, or let Auto Aperture Control adjust the iris during exposure changes.
Lifelike Accuracy
2 Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements correct chromatic aberrations (optical color defects). Nano Crystal Coat (N) virtually eliminates flare, ghosting and coma. Optical advancements of the Z mount and S-Line render point-light sources sharper than ever without the usual diamond-shaped distortion—perfect for nightscapes, starscapes and more.
Flattering Perspective
The shape of a face is greatly affected by focal length. The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S’s 85mm perspective is within the sweet spot for portraits and fashion, rendering faces naturally and beautifully, free of distortion.
Eye-Detection AF
Z series’ outstanding Eye-AF and the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S’s extreme sharpness ensure your portraits and headshots will have tack-sharp focus right where you want it—on the eyes of your subject.
Extreme Sharpness
The extreme sharpness and resolution of the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S makes it particularly well suited for capturing the subtlety and nuances of facial expressions and the emotions they convey.
Dust and Drip Resistant
Extensively sealed to keep dust and moisture out, especially around all moving parts of the lens barrel.
Multi-Focus System
Finely detailed high resolution photography can sometimes be susceptible to lens aberrations, such as color fringing, especially at close ranges. The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S incorporates an all-new multi-focusing system, consisting of two AF drive units precisely synchronized to deliver fast, accurate autofocusing and drastically reduce aberrations.
Customizable Control Ring
In addition to a dedicated manual focus ring, the control ring can be used for quiet aperture control (great for iris transitions during video recording or situations where complete silence is critical) or exposure compensation.
9-Blade Rounded Diaphragm
Produces stunning bokeh and stops down smoothly and evenly for consistent exposures at any frame rate.

Excellent
Excellent lens. Fast and Low light, feel small and bit short than my 85 1.4g. Quality is excellent. 85 1.4g is much bokeh because of 1.4 but almost same in the naked eye. The only thing i like is there are no purple pringing in the backlit not like 85 1.4g. So if u have existing 1.4 and purple pringing is not an issue to you, no need to buy.

Outstanding Short Telephoto
Nikon’s long awaited 85/1.8 prime for the Z-series is finally shipping and I’m happy to report it’s been worth the wait. Design and build are as expected based on the existing f/1.8 series primes, which is to say relatively light and compact in a decent, if unremarkable, composite casing. AF is fast and accurate and the lens balances very nicely on my Z7. Image quality, as hoped, excels. The lens is tack sharp wide open right across frame. On testing, I can detect a very slight bump in sharpness at f/2.8 in the extreme corners on a planar subject (brick wall). But this is only detectable by making painstaking comparisons at the pixel level. You would never notice it in real world shooting. Simply choose your aperture, focus on any part of the frame at any distance and prepare to be amazed. It’s all here. Biting (but not clinical) sharpness from wide open. Exquisite detail at the plane of focus. Beautiful creamy background blur. Smooth transitions. And exceptional colour purity, which is probably down to the remarkable lack of colour fringing, even on out-of-focus highlights. It all adds up to ‘that look’ which only the best short telephoto lenses have: that beguiling combination of sharp details and glowing highlights against a soft wash of colour, all balanced in perfect harmony. The lens is just as well behaved on stopping down. Depth of field simply increases, untroubled as far as I can tell by any significant focus shift or field curvature, just as you expect and just as you want. No unpleasant surprises. Complaints? If pushed, I would say it doesn’t focus quite as close I would like but, in fairness, that’s true of every 85mm prime I’ve ever used. It’s just how it is. Some will say it should have been f/1.4. Not me. Not when it’s half the size and weight of those ‘hero’ lenses. Not when the rendering is this good. I pair mine with the equally exceptional 14-30/4 zoom, which on my Z7 makes for a fantastic two lens kit for travel and backpacking. Highly recommended.

Truly Stunning
Over the years I have used many, many short telephoto lenses and this one simply takes the cake as my favorite. It’s tempting to think of this only as a portrait lens — and it *shines* in that role (more in a bit) — but this is a jack-of-all-trades that can be used for landscapes, cityscapes, event shooting, concerts, etc. etc. etc. Autofocus is quick and accurate on my Z7. Optically, the lens is stellar. It’s just a joy to use.And yes, if you want to use this for portraits, you’ll have a hard time topping it. The lens is sharp enough especially towards infinity where it’s bitingly sharp. Crucially, though, in the portrait distance range, it’s just soft enough to take the edge off of that sharpness to not be harsh. The bokeh is very, very pleasant but what makes it really shine is that the transition from in-focus to out-of-focus is just sooooo smooooth. It’s about as graceful as the transition zone gets and it really serves to make your subject pop in ways that don’t normally happen. There is a little cat’s eye effect to out-of-focus specular highlights wide open, but this disappears quickly by stopping down. The aperture maintains a very circular opening at mid apertures so this helps keep the aforementioned good bokeh looking good even as you stop down. For portraits, I like to shoot this in the f2.2 to f4 range but for other subject matter, I honestly have no qualms about using it at any aperture. There may be other 85mm lenses that excel over this one at a certain style of photography (the Sony GM 85mm f1.4 is ever so slightly better at portraits, for example) but nothing I’ve used so far can compete with this Z lens as an all around short telephoto. So far I’ve been pleased with every Z lens I’ve purchased but this one is easily the most recommendable. Simply a stunning optic that you should run, not walk to buy.Very, very highly recommended.

Killer lens and best price going around!
Got this beast of a lens on the Black Friday sales from Amazon direct as an authorised Nikon seller with Australian warranty (something I’m very careful about). 25% cheaper than my local camera shop and the best part (apart from obvious savings) – next day delivery!! Was told by the camera shop that I could pre-order for the premium price with no ETA…

Broken seal, pathetic packaging & already opened lens delivered.
Product is too good there is no doubt about that, its a product which usually people buy after whole lot of research. But, i am very very disappointed with the seller who had sent product with opened/ breaked seal. The packaging for product like lens was pathetic, few Papers were just put in there instead of proper bubble thing.I would highly recommend every professional to buy such specialized product from company store instead of online platform.

Superb lens for portrait photography as well as street photography with some telephoto elements to it. Lens is not too heavy and feels very premium quality.85mm focal length is too good.Build quality feels very premium which is expected as it’s a prime series lens.Almost silent stepper motor while focusing on subjects.

Eccellente, 5 stelle meritate

Its a Nikon Z 50mm f1.8 lens.
Its a Nikon Z 50mm f1.8 lens. You put it on a camera and use it to take pictures and Nikon made it. What’s not to like?Seriously though, I decided to compare it to the image quality of my older 50mm f1.4 AF-D (and an FTZ), just to see what the difference was (other than that the AF-D can’t autofocus on a Z-Mount). Wow; this was so much sharper and clearer, especially if used with the recently-released pixel-shift capability.

How much I love a 50mm lens and I use it often.
I have always enjoyed a 50mm lens and when I do use it its the lens I have with me. It makes think and work for your images as having a zoom is sometimes too easy. A 50mm is virtually waht the eye sees also.

Excellent

A beautiful edition of the 35mm, and it fits the Z
Super sharp. Great bokeh, beautiful colour rendition. There is something special about this lens. I’ve had this for approx four months to compare against the 50mm and now the 20mm Z lenses on my Z7.I’m am now of the clear belief that the 35mm is the sharpest of the Z prime range.

5 Sterne in allen Belangen
Hallo zusammen! So, genug abgeschweift.

Klare Kaufempfehlung!

Z system native pro glass at enthusiast price
make no mistake, this is professional glass through and throughTL;DR:Pros:- sharpness and resolution are sensational- smooth non-distracting bokeh- micro-contrast is pro-level- color rendering is superb- light and compact- fast focus- solid buildCons:- max magnification is not inspiring (this is no macro lens)- no controls on the lens except for AF/MF switch. no control ring, no lens buttons, no aperture- no built-in VR- plain design looks cheapat first when Nikon released this, I thought it was just a placeholder lens, to make sure Z system early adopters had something to shoot with. it just looks like a simple cheap lens, one of the reasons I wasn’t attracted to it at firstbut now while I got tired waiting for a faster 35mm option and got this to play with, I am absolutely stunned by the image quality delivered, and see no reason to wait for a faster (and no doubt heavier and pricier) option.portraits look stunning at F/2, sharpness is hair-splitting corner to corner, resolution this lens delivers is superb, crop any way you like. micro-contrast is second to none, and colors are sensationalif 35mm is your FOV, look no further for Z system. this lens also makes 50mm 1.8 S redundant. just shoot 35mm and crop, resolution is there, especially if you shoot Z7. even on Z6 I can crop like there was no tomorrow and get stunning photosall in all, highly recommended.

Stunning lens, a must if you have a Nikon Z camera
I will say up front, I don’t normally shoot primes. But I decided to invest in some for my Z6 as the kit lens at f4 limited some shots I wanted.Right out of the box it looks and feels like all the other S lenses. Not too heavy, quality construction, everything you could hope for. But it’s the image quality that stunned me. For 15+ years I’ve carried a Nikon DSLR and a zoom lens, for many years a 24-70/2.8 lens. I’ve always bought primes but never used them much at all. These S lens are different, I’ve pretty much completely switched to using primes! The sharpness, speed, and quietness are talked about a lot. Obviously all stellar but there is a very difficult to describe image feel to the S primes. Yup they’re ‘only’ f1.8 lenses, but having used 1.4 f mount lenses I’m not missing anything at all. You can shoot these S primes wide open at 1.8 all day and the quality is stunning.I recently traded in my 24-70/4s kit lens for the f2.8s version. But I’m still finding I prefer to shoot with the prime lenses. The 35mm being one of the 3 I pretty much carry everywhere now. If you have a Z6/7 get yourself some of the primes, they’re definitely worth it.

A fantastic 35mm lens
This is one great lens.I shoot family portraits and weddings for a living. I can use this on the Family portraits on my Nikon Z6 and it is a very sharp lens with good contrast and fast focus.I use a 85mm Z on my second Z6 on portraits for a two camera setup. The 35mm for the group photos and the 85mm for the single and two people photos.

Likes: Lightweight, focus is sorta fast but not like my 70-200. Very sharp edge to edge! Bokeh is nice and realistically for a f1.8 lens it’s all I need. DoF with faster lens becomes a bigger issue. This lens has good balance.Dislikes: No real dislikes. The ONLY thing I’ve noticed is focus accuracy in low contrast situations. It does OK but not great. This is on a Z9 and non face/eye/car detection. Just autofocus on a still life subject (e.g. flower). Certainly something I can work with though and not a big issue at all. Haven’t tried it in a low light portrait situation yet.

Extremely sharp, fast, hi-res lens for Z7
+ excellent image quality+ very sharp, low distortion+ fast and accurate AF- not the ‘feel’ of a 1.4, let alone a Leica lens…It’s a quite big, but light and well built 35mm than can cope with the sensor res of the Z7.(My AF-S 35/1.4 only delivers around 28MP, hence doesn’t do on the Z7).What I would have hoped for is a 1.4 version that would get closer to (but probably never reach) my Leica Summilux 35.Overall, more versatile than the 50mm (which is also awesome).

Super!!
